The following groups are offered to clients and families on our wait list for services:
Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre offers an 8-week Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) Parent Group. During this interactive training you will:
- Understand why children sometimes struggle to meet day-to-day expectations,
- Learn how to addressing conflicts in a way that reduces challenging behaviors, improves relationships, and teaches critical skills,
- Practice addressing problems before things become escalated between you and your child,
- Connect with other parents in a compassionate and non-judgmental setting.
We also offer an 8-week Circle of Security group that is geared towards parents of children under the age of 6. Its primary focus is on building secure attachment and helping parents develop skills to meet their child’s needs. Parents/caregivers will learn to:
- Recognize ways in which their child communicates his/her needs
- Develop critical thinking skills to help guide children and make sense of difficult behaviours
- Build caregiver skills to promote a healthy, secure attachment
- Reflect on their own parenting style while increasing self-awareness
